Titicut Follies

March 2019

This essay is a material analysis of Frederick Wiseman's 1967 directorial debut. I focus on its Direct Cinema influences, namely the progression of loose, associative narrative, the assignation of meaning by way of editing, and the political potential of this bare style.

Written under my own guidance for the class that was originally Denise Emily's Director's First Films.
